“Chicken Hot Pot”

Posted by fredblog51 on Tuesday, March 24th, 2009

Hi…dont get to excited this is not a recipe, just thought I would show you one of our new Orpington’s settling in?  The cheeky thing ripped out the fern to make a bath on one of those nice sunny days last week.

As for the East Indian’s (Ducks) Sir Quack has been doing the business with Peiking, and Crispy so currently we have 17 eggs in the nest……Holly of coarse would like to keep all the duckling, but I said she can keep 3

Pretty fowl! Hens, ducks and geese have such funny little characters. Soemtimes the way they look at you can speak volumes!

  2. mjcon 24 Mar 2009 at 1:10 pm 2

I shall look forward to seeing them all on plates and pots.

Judging by the way Henny Penny is treat your garden Fred, I’m inclined to agree with mjc!
Will we being seeing action shots of Sir Quack rogering Peiking? Well there’s no need to take offence, I showed you my frogs after all. You didn’t think they were just hugging did you?
    I’m beginning to sound like mjc…its a worry…

Fred … FRED …!!! Are you there, FRED …!!
Holly too … Come, draw near …

Please, please, Please, PLE-E-EEZE … can I have a couple of your lovely black ducklings for my own modest duck-farm …?

Do you have homes for the rest yet …?

    Oooo, excitement …!

LOL FC dont worry nothing phases me…….even seen your boobs remember !!!! MJC your right there, just been easy on her as shes the new one, as to the others the polytunnel is down as they ate my crops last year and a new chicken proof fence has gone up.

Hi Linda……Yes if we are successful I will be selling off the others duckling, But you would need to add a mesh to your existing fencing as they will get though…..Luckly our neigbours like our 3 ducks and let them wander around.

 Oh FC, your frogs weren’t ..gulp.. being intimate with eachother surely??
Doing the business/ a bit of hows yer father/ making lurve/ a bit of slap and tickle?
I am really shocked. I thought frog spawn was made in the “tapioca kitchen “of Anorak Tower.

  7. Soapladyon 24 Mar 2009 at 4:06 pm 7

Do they fly, Fred …? Much, or high enough to lift them over a fence …?

  8. mjcon 24 Mar 2009 at 4:37 pm 8

You didn’t think they were just hugging did you? - FC (commenting on her educational pics.) # What else would, could, they be doing, FC? In Orkney?! # Might these froggies be able to multi-task, and perhaps be belting out Gregorian chants as well as doing the huggies.

Soaplady, Fred’s ducks are famous for gliding. They get a lift from the winds, and out yonder they go. I suggest you tag the ducks, chip them, or put a gps on them, so they don’t end up in someone else’s hot pot rather than yours.

Hi Linda, Yes they do fly but I clip their wings, but as per MJC they do like a wind up before launching lol

Ducklings! Reminds me of when my brother [aged about 4] hugged a dozen or so little ducklings to death … they were being housed away from stoats etc in a netted-in pen beneath the tank stand. He was not popular! I seem to recollect racing inside to tittle tattle on him, as sisters do.

 aw it’s like Lennie in Mice and Men..

  13. Soapladyon 25 Mar 2009 at 1:43 pm 13

that could mar a childs life for good, that could … As long as he hugged the 12 all together, and didn’t hug them one after each other …

I’ve always suspected that the death of my pet rabbit, in his hutch, was because I had forgotten to feed him for a too-long period of time … though my parents certainly never said this to me (I was only very young then) …

not a pleasant realisation at all …

  14. mjcon 25 Mar 2009 at 2:34 pm 14

I would have thought your parents, Soaplady, would have kept an eye over both you and the rabbit. I suspect that Fred will now have you sign a document attesting that you will feed adequately the ducklings he entrusts to your care: nothing less would do, surely. Fred has got to have his reputation for plump and juicy ducks to preserve.

That is a very smart hen, Fred. You could have problems there
Good duck pictures, too, I’d been wondering how they were getting along. Fred the Duck Farmer!

  16. Soapladyon 27 Mar 2009 at 6:12 pm 16

perhaps they did mjc … :- ) so much of my early childhood has gone sort of ‘misty’ over the years …

For example, I have a vivid recollection of my grandfather, who was a Captain on a trawler which fished around Iceland, locking me in the coal-cellar (for some reason which evades me) for a few hours …

My mum says she can’t remember anything like that happening …

But I seem to be able to remember it …

You never know, do you …

fred–i must complain; here the weather is still lovely but a tad cooler,so i am waiting for some of your lovely recipes to warm me up::

  18. Flying Cat 2on 03 Apr 2009 at 3:33 pm 18

    Did you make the soup?

  19. taddoeon 07 Apr 2009 at 4:54 am 19

    yes and others

  20. Barneyon 07 Apr 2009 at 7:08 pm 20

Sir Quack certainly has the eye and demeanour of a qualified rake. If you clip ducks’ wings to stop them flying, what do you do to stop a cat ditto?

  21. Fredblog51on 09 Apr 2009 at 6:42 pm 21

Hi Barney, Yep I clip all the wings as to the Cat she keeps well away, as the Ducks chase her and the Dog off LOL.

  22. Flying Cat 2on 20 Apr 2009 at 10:54 am 22

You can’t keep a good cat down Barney…
I hope all is well Fred and your frozen shoulder is un-freezing.
