Posted by fredblog51 on Friday, February 27th, 2009

Hi Bloggers, well its here my new tool, not a building tool but a choppy, cutty, blendy thing and its great. Sarah went with me yesterday to buy my Birthday pressie for next week, but has allowed me to use it now lol.

So today I made Sarah and the Kids some scones, then a Victorian sponge, Fresh Coleslaw and Holly’s Cheesy coleslaw Oh and while I was cooking I made some Stuffed Peppers for dinner tonight, so all in all a good morning work…..Better than sitting here idle.and here’s a picture to prove it LOL.

Oooh Fred I’ve never seen one like that! A red one! What kind is it? (I think you’re allowed to say it on the new IB).
And as for your morning’s work, all I can say is that it’s a lot better than mine. And I’m 100% certain that it all tastes every bit as good as it looks. Have fun with the machine, Fred!

omg  Not content with doing all the Highly Useful Manly things, now you go and do all the others as well. And purroperly too - none of yer rubbish - full-on instantly purrfect kitchen magnificence!
We love your spice drawers  as the actress said…or maybe it was the bishop…
    And your new tool…

  3. taddoeon 27 Feb 2009 at 7:55 pm 3

 kitchenaid, fred? or cuisinart? never mind the make of the machine as long as does the job its meant for and it looks as though is does. It all looks delicous.

aww thanks Jill and FC, I just read the comments to Sarah and little Holly said (and I quote) They look to good to eat but we must eat them  Right Jill… I was in the Scottish Hydro shop when we saw it it;s made by Kenwood I liked it cos it made of metal none of your plastic things so often found. Anyway we went there yesterday and it was removed from the Window display and I though OH NO its gone !!! as going in to ask the Sales assistant it was moved right back to the shop the origional price was £99.00, but we saw it for £59.99 then it was reduced by another tenner so we were really pleased.
The long red handle bit lifts out and you attached the whisker (not a cat one FC) soup blender and whisk……one youput the motor back as in the Picture it slices, Dices and Mixes.

Ok FC yes the draws we bought about 3 years ago in Margate in one of those large garden cenres which have a cook shop, we like em too.

Well, we do know that Fred can cook and do home improvements and know how to work his tools  , that’s excellent in my book! I guess I’ll have to take a number!
Kebabs sound good–but what is cheesy coleslaw? I’ve never heard of that.

  28. Jillon 02 Mar 2009 at 9:23 am 28

I’ve not read the blogs for a couple of days and - blimey! - how the tone has been lowered!
Fred is obviously in great demand. I suggest that we all take turns and pass him round among us  And Sarah wouldn’t mind cos it would be better for her figure not to have too many Victoria sponges

  29. mjcon 02 Mar 2009 at 1:30 pm 29

Fred is obviously in great demand. I suggest that we all take turns and pass him round among us - Jill # I am going to report you all to the authorities, not excluding Rowan and the Archbishop of York

  30. fredblog51on 02 Mar 2009 at 2:56 pm 30

Jill, how true, I’m just made a cheese and tomatoe Quiche and Fresh cornish pasty now, to cut down on the sugar content.

  31. wildfreckleon 02 Mar 2009 at 4:13 pm 31

Well - I’m off to the Scottish Hydro shop in Tobermory tomorrow to see if I can get one of these fantastic machines - Fanny Craddock watch out!!

  32. mjcon 02 Mar 2009 at 6:22 pm 32

Your device can’t be bought in the States, dash it all, not under the Kenwood brand. # Anyone knows of a good kraut cutter, also known in fancy circles as a mandoline slicer. I want to use it to cut cabbage (sliced in half, not quarters: no wimpy gizmo for me). One can make good achar with cabbage (and thinly sliced carrots): not everyone can have green mangoes from the backyard after all. I don’t want to spend a fortune on it (eh, it’s just for our family, not the whole village). I would like the kraut cutter’s frame to be wooden. Anyone has an inherited mandoline that meets the specs for disposal at garage sale (not antique) prices?

  33. taddoeon 02 Mar 2009 at 7:23 pm 33

MJC–yes i do order it from a catalogue called mathon,in france-they sell profensionel and semi-professionel kitchen goods etc and they have a large selction of mandolines. I don’t have the adress with me here in nz but google it they are called MATHON S.A the adress is somewhere in the Isere(38) Like fred i love cooking so have loads of good devices back in france

  34. Flying Cat 2on 02 Mar 2009 at 8:01 pm 34

Think of the shipping! It enough to make a man choke on his saurkraut. Come to think of it, saurkraut is enough to make a cat choke :???: without shipping charges!

  35. taddoeon 02 Mar 2009 at 8:24 pm 35

 actually their shipping costs are ultra low

  36. mjcon 02 Mar 2009 at 9:43 pm 36

taddoe, I tried to get Mathon’s website, and could not get a url from Google, no matter how I phrased the search. Could you give it to me here? Thanks. (PS: I am glad to hear that you are surviving the NZ sheep’s methane production. When are you coming back to la belle France (oh well, a gross exaggeration once in a while can’t do much harm), if at all?

  37. wildfreckleon 04 Mar 2009 at 7:36 pm 37

Hi Fred - what is the model number of your wonderful Kenwood machine - I’ve looked and there are so many different models - want to make sure I get the right one! thanks

  46. Flying Cat 2on 05 Mar 2009 at 2:52 pm 46

What you need now is for some cunning homemakin’ needle-wielding woman to make it a slip cover so it stays pristine when not in use!

  47. mjcon 05 Mar 2009 at 4:15 pm 47

Thanks taddoe, I shall check it out.

  48. wildfreckleon 05 Mar 2009 at 6:06 pm 48

Grrr Mrs Angry from Mull! took the long journey from work to Tobermory - in anticipation of my new purchase (like the idea of camouflage FC) and the sign on the Scottish Hydro door “shop closed Thursday 5th March” - think I am jinxed!

  49. taddoeon 05 Mar 2009 at 8:50 pm 49

DO I DETECT THE LATER IMAGE— one kettle blowing off STEAMwhy isn’there an “anger”smiley?

  50. wildfreckleon 05 Mar 2009 at 9:17 pm 50

that was the nearest to an angry smiley I could find! or there is this one

    Or this one

  52. Barneyon 07 Mar 2009 at 3:42 pm 52

Congratulations, Fred, you have really put the cat among the pidgeons with this blog! It certainly got my gastic juices flowing and I’m very pleased to note what a broad-minded bunch of female bloggers there are on IB. A word of warning, which probably is both too late and entirely unnecessary for a Man of the World like yourself - I think that EffCees fpu wants the job of making the natty cover for the Object of Ambiguity.

  53. wildfreckleon 07 Mar 2009 at 5:09 pm 53

Well - when I get the bit between my teeth there’s no stopping me!

After the wasted (well its never wasted - I love the view as you come down the hill into Tobermory) trip to Tobermory on Thursday, rang the Scottish Hydro shop and very help assistant advised “oh we sold out of that model before Christmas - very popular it was - and such a great machine” “I know that is why I wanted one “there are 3 in the Perth shop if you are going in that direction” “er no in the foreseeable future” “well have a look on tinternet” - she was very helpful and sang the praises of said machine - OK you dont need to rub it in I mumbled under my breath! So, put on my beach shorts and went surfing (sorry made that up) - What a difference in price and charges for delivery (our penance for living on an Island) - but the best I could find was £64.99 with free delivery from Dixons http://www.dixons.co.uk/martprd/store/dix_page.jsp?BV_SessionID=@@@@2087341580.1236445678@@@@&BV_EngineID=ccceadegimjflffcflgceggdhhmdgml.0&page=Product&fm=null&sm=null&tm=null&sku=191904&category_oid=
    is the link
they call it “stylish and funky” - hope I can contain my excitment. I just hope I can live up to some of the dishes Fred has created! My mouth is watering in anticipation

  54. fredblog51on 07 Mar 2009 at 5:41 pm 54

Well Barney it must be the longest blog I have had such a great response……. all cover are welcome !!!!

Oh well done Wildfreckle, you still found one at a good price you wont be sorry once you get it.

I have just made 15 toffee apples for Holly’s school on Friday as she was promoting the one she took in on wednesday that I made and yesterday she came home with little hand made cards saying thank you…. and a message from one teacher asking for the recipe, on top of that I have just finished 12 Cornish pasty’s to. So things are hotting up in this kitchen

The next two dishes are a sausage stew, then a sweet potato soup for next week…..oh and I have had a request for a chocolate sponge cake.

  55. wildfreckleon 07 Mar 2009 at 7:05 pm 55

I think you will need to set up a recipe blog

  56. Barneyon 07 Mar 2009 at 7:37 pm 56

And a restaurant! Go, Holly, go!

  57. taddoeon 07 Mar 2009 at 7:49 pm 57

oh mi god–imagine anybody wanting to make a trip to perth–even for a good mixer(i can feel the bad vibes coming through from the fair city)i was brought up in perth,so i know what i’m on about:WF one of the best views i have seen is coming into ullapool from inverness, when its p*****g down with rain! even in the rain the sight is ah brings tears to my eyes just thinking about it–even hubby thought it was fantastic

  58. Harryd(Canada)on 08 Mar 2009 at 8:26 pm 58

Hi Girls I make a great toast and Beans. How is that?.

  59. Flying Cat 2on 09 Mar 2009 at 5:01 pm 59

“I think that EffCees fpu wants the job of making the natty cover for the Object of Ambiguity.”
But she’d need very precise measurements of Fred’s large upright object. Don’t tell me this cat can’t be tactful  Oh my dribbling jaws…sossidge stew…and cornish patsies…haude me back!

  60. stromnessdragonon 09 Mar 2009 at 6:06 pm 60

Re the natty cover - it should be fluffy. Mohair, possibly.

  61. fredblog51on 09 Mar 2009 at 10:44 pm 61

FC I can give you my Vital statistics which are as follows 46″ chest, 34″ waist and 9″…………that me shoes size!

  62. fredblog51on 09 Mar 2009 at 10:54 pm 62

Hey HARRY! stop trying to nick our lovely ladies………Stockings and Chocolate might work though?

  63. Flying Cat 2on 09 Mar 2009 at 11:04 pm 63

I’m sorry to say Harryd, if you don’t actually make your own baked beans and the bread for the toast from scratch, I’m sticking with Fred.
Oh no SD, not fluffy. It should be quilted like those sixties housecoats, with a nice contrasting trim. And here’s a little something for your nine inches Fred
    https://www.locr.com/photo-vanuatu-malakula-13646019

  64. taddoeon 09 Mar 2009 at 11:37 pm 64

:!: well said FC;when i arrived in froggy land(june 1976) i loved tinned baked beans—THEN(sorry folks) i discovered beans-uncooked so i learnt how to cook them myself and to make the tomato sauce to go with them etc andnow???i look at tins of baked beans here in nz and say “no way josé”try it folks—you will never think “beans means ***** again

  65. taddoeon 09 Mar 2009 at 11:43 pm 65

from TANNA island bien sur,FC??

  66. Barneyon 10 Mar 2009 at 12:24 pm 66

Take away the Moderator and this is what you get - a cornucopia av Saturnalia. Hullo Carol from IBHQ, do you occassionally cast a wistful eye at these pages and wince at what you read? The 9 inch tradition goes at least back to Mr. R. Burns, as some others may also have remarked.

  67. fredblog51on 10 Mar 2009 at 12:25 pm 67

FC……………..thank’s for the link I like it, could be my new look in the summer???? when the sun does come out

  68. Flying Cat 2on 10 Mar 2009 at 2:18 pm 68

It was most remiss of the parental units not to bring a few Big Nambas *****-wrappers home with them in the great long ago. It would have been a purrleasure to send you one Mr Fred…Obviously Small Nambas need not apply

  69. Flying Cat 2on 10 Mar 2009 at 2:21 pm 69

 Oh wait a minnit, I wanted to do the 69th comment! Purrlease let me do the 69th comment. Just so’s I can say ’soixante-neuf’ without looking over my shoulder at Auntie’s gatekeper! Yee-haw! I  did it!
The sun has got his hat on hip hip hip hooray, the sun has got his hat on and he’s coming out to play

  70. Jillon 10 Mar 2009 at 3:44 pm 70

And I might be the Big Seven-O. Congratulations Fred, you and your choppy mixy thing have set a record for comments. And what luscious recipes! You’ll need to build a house extension

  71. wildfreckleon 10 Mar 2009 at 3:47 pm 71

Congratulations Jill on 70! a record Fred - I know Mountainman started a blog about music that went on for a long time but that was on the “other” site - and I’m sure there is still a lot of mileage in this posting! My “toy” is on its way - cant wait - hens arriving Sunday - hubby went to Tesco’s and stocked up on flour etc - I hope it lives up to my expectations!

  72. Harryd(Canada)on 10 Mar 2009 at 3:57 pm 72

Okay Fred You have the tools for persuading Island Ladies. do you have a battery for it.

  73. Jillon 10 Mar 2009 at 4:18 pm 73

WF, I hope that “hens arriving Sunday” and “toy is on the way” are not connected :-)
I also hope that Fred is getting commission from Kenwood on all purchases of red mixy choppy things!

  74. fredblog51on 10 Mar 2009 at 6:40 pm 74

well FC you certainly did do it (or did you) !!!! no rude comments please. 75. Harryd(Canada)on 10 Mar 2009 at 8:46 pm 75

  76. taddoeon 10 Mar 2009 at 9:06 pm 76

think this apart from fc’s utterly brilliant blog on knitted boobs must be one of the longest

  77. Flying Cat 2on 10 Mar 2009 at 10:07 pm 77

Why thank you taddoe. We still have the knitted boob. And the knitted pig. What on earth would one do with them???
Calum still holds the record for comments - around 100 I think - but there was a teensie suspicion some of them might have been self-generated…you couldn’t get away with that in here!

  78. taddoeon 10 Mar 2009 at 10:23 pm 78

what could one do without them  or maybe diggy sands “olive oil’ had a good number of replies–friends back home (chez les frogs)loved the “boob one”see over here i can use the term “frogs” and not be sanctioned!

Fred Craddock’s Step-by-Step Cookery Blog - all that’s missing is his helpmeet Fanny…and surely a man cannot live Liff to the full without one of those!

Come on Fred lad, we are all agog with anticipation and hunger for your next bunch of pictures and seductivie descriptions. I find it difficult to wait.

  88. wildfreckleon 14 Mar 2009 at 9:54 pm 88

Well its now Saturday night and gadget has not arrived! According to the parcel tracking number it is somewhere in Glasgow.

On a sad note, some of you may remember my springer, Jessie - sadly she died yesterday - she was 13 years but had recently experienced a couple of stroke like episodes - the house is miserable to say the least and I feel my right arm has been cut off. Havent read any of the blogs recently - not quite in the mood but normal service will be resumed soon.

Will keep you posted on arrival of gadget - are we going to have a recipe blog?

  89. taddoeon 14 Mar 2009 at 10:14 pm 89

not only i’m missing my animals now you’ve got me crying as well

  92. taddoeon 14 Mar 2009 at 11:18 pm 92

my fish could have been from scotland–it was only 1 good size filet of salmon the same weight in smoked salmon melted butter ,lemon juice–just cover filet with lemon juice, put in the micro-wave for three minutes transfer into big bowl, add the smoked salmon, melted butter a pinch of s&p put through booster put into nice little bowl, stick in fridge for about three hours et voila “rillettes de saumon”otherwise salmon paté:now they don’t come any easier than that!!

  93. taddoeon 15 Mar 2009 at 4:30 am 93

    who is going be number 100 :?: :?: :?:

  94. Barneyon 15 Mar 2009 at 10:57 am 94

“Put through booster”???? Is that a supercharger, a turbo or an afterburner?
Big commiserations with WF on the passing of her dog, even though Stumpy is a sprightly 3 year old occassionally in the darkness of the “wolf hours” of pre-dawn I wonder how we will cope when that day comes. Then I stretch out a hand and give her a comfying pat. She may feel put out at being awakened from her beauty sleep but I feel better, and that’s what counts.Ever tried your hand at “Janssons frestelse”, Fred? Potatoes chopped into matchstick thickness, layered with finely chopped onions (not too much of thems) and anchovy fillets and the juice they come in, salt and pepper between layers, do the whole thing in a flattish casserole dish, when the layering is done (3 is about right) fill up with cream, sprinkle bread-crumbs on top and into a medium oven, say 220C for about 45 minutes. Should come out golden brown on top and is best with with a light lager and an ice-cold aquavit on the side. For those suffering from malnutrition one can also put some in some pats of butter before popping the dish into the oven. “Janssons frestelse” means, as EffCee will tell you, “Jansson’s temptation”.

  112. wildfreckleon 18 Mar 2009 at 8:25 am 112

The “job” is just fantastic - to call it work doesnt seem right! We have been blessed with lovely weather at the moment - long may it last - and we have seen beaucoup de eagles! I have truly died and gone to heaven.
As to the gadget - as its referred to in our house - it had to be the raspberry colour - its great - plan to do victoria sandwich this evening with the eggs from our hens 3 eggs so far - fantastic - and some fancy coleslaw!

  113. Barneyon 18 Mar 2009 at 1:50 pm 113

  114. thelandladyon 18 Mar 2009 at 9:51 pm 114

 Can somebody post me a link to FC’s blog about knitted boob? I have joined too late, I am post Aunty Beeb. Or P.A.B for short.

  115. wildfreckleon 18 Mar 2009 at 9:57 pm 115

Just sat down after a hard day’s eagle searching! and just made a victoria sandwich with our eggs and homemade coleslaw using the shredding tool! I keep eating it out of the bowl - is there somewhere you can get the recipes for the gadget or are you using your own recipes?

  116. Flying Cat 2on 18 Mar 2009 at 10:51 pm 116

My dear landlady, never one to shirk a bit of showing orff, here is a link with my knitted tit.

I hope it comes in useful.

  117. wildfreckleon 18 Mar 2009 at 10:55 pm 117

    oh how I laughed!

  118. Barneyon 19 Mar 2009 at 6:21 pm 118

Well, it may not be easy but one has to admit - Respec’, EffCee, for a buxom blog indeed! Yes folks, Jura is kinky and has three paps, and they are very windy indeed! No, their surroundings are that which are windy (grammar).

  119. fredblog51on 19 Mar 2009 at 8:04 pm 119

FC stop flashing ya BOOBS all over the place

  120. Barneyon 19 Mar 2009 at 8:20 pm 120

EffCee doesn’t really have BOOBS, Fred, nor anything else that matters, either. Bur we love him for all that. And he would love three or four different sorts of Swedish pickled herrings with boiled potatoes and maybe some sour cream and chopped chives on the side, and some proper “hardbread” and of course the beer and ice-cold aquavit - really excellent together with pickled herrings. Try Aalborgs “Jubileum” aquavit - straight from 2 days in the freezer — g-o-o-o-d, but maybe too strong for four-footed creatures. It’s sometimes hard even to control two feet after some schnapps.
The above recipe doesn’t need an after-burner, if it isn’t another glass of aquavit. Yes, thank you, I don’t mind if I do…. and I forgot the good strong cheese to go on the harbread, fastened there by a good thick layer of cholesterol-rich butter. We need cholesterol, you know, or else our cell walls will fall to bits. And we would then be more than squidgy.

  121. Flying Cat 2on 21 Mar 2009 at 8:42 pm 121

I wish we were more than Squidgy, but she’s not in here to be more than
Oh Barney there are two bipeds here who would be more than glad to join you in a few swallies if it involves acquavit. Lets hear it for plucky little rich Norway!
Doesn’t your bottle explode if you leave it so long in the freezer?

  122. taddoeon 21 Mar 2009 at 9:45 pm 122

i loved the boob blog–i’m in samoa just now and its internet here is slower than snail mail–will blog when back in nz(26th0

  123. Soapladyon 22 Mar 2009 at 12:38 am 123

ye gods, how did all of this happen **Behind My Back** …??

    Fred’s well surpassed the 100 comments …!

I think that deserves a lurid yellow Smiley myself …!

I’m a cake-maker myself … Mostly german recipes - yer Marmorkuechen and lots of cheesecake made with quark, glazed with jelly mix and topped with mandarins …

    mmmm-mmmm …
and what do I have in the house …?
Well plenty of yogurt, that’s for sure …!!

  124. fredblog51on 22 Mar 2009 at 12:32 pm 124

lol thanks Linda, the Yogurt look good too

  125. Flying Cat 2on 24 Mar 2009 at 11:09 am 125

Is Soaplady islandblogging’s first bona fido Patisserie addict?
M’Marmalade Chum, with impeccable timing, has just brought a kitty gourmet delicacy in through the Catflap of Doom…and been chased out again…what is it with you bipeds and your faddishness? I do think a fresh vole would be improved by a jelly glaze and Mandarins

  126. Soapladyon 24 Mar 2009 at 1:21 pm 126

    FC yes, I am a total patisserie addict, totally … :- )
That’s why I loved germany … whole shops devoted to cakes - so-o-o-o many different sorts of them … If I still lived there, what with the fresh brezeln on a sunday morning, I’d be the size of a large barn …

Incidentally, if let when taken to a restaurant, I would eschew starters and main, and just have three puddings …!!

  127. mjcon 24 Mar 2009 at 1:43 pm 127

I noticed that Mindy was not on starvation diet either - stuff straight from the butcher’s, really!!

  128. Soapladyon 24 Mar 2009 at 2:18 pm 128

Mindy is within an ounce of the weight she should be mjc, for her age and size … :- )

I gave her ‘Butchers’ tripe mix from a can when she was recuperating from her op, but now she’s back to the usual complete dry dog crunchies …

It’s OK for me to be a little ‘pneumatic’, but my dog is going to be healthily lean …!
